The short answer

Typical Sydney market rates are $1,500–$4,000 to remove a single timber or metal garage (GST not stated), or $3,000–$8,000 inc. GST for a fibro garage with asbestos.

Pool removal is $3,500–$10,000 to partly remove and backfill a concrete pool, or $8,000–$18,000 to take it out completely, where the sources don’t state GST.

Slabs, difficult access and compaction testing are usually extra, and these are market rates checked 10 October 2026, not our price list.

What changes the price of a garage removal?

What the garage is built from sets most of the price. A timber or metal frame comes down and loads out quickly; brick takes longer to break up and is heavier to cart away; and the fibro sheeting on many older Sydney garages can contain asbestos, which has to be removed by a licensed removalist before the frame comes down.

Our own team removes non-friable asbestos under our Class B licence, so a fibro garage stays one job with one quote, with the asbestos and its clearance shown as their own lines.

  • Size: a single or double garage, and the roof and wall materials
  • Asbestos in the wall or ceiling sheeting
  • Attached to the house or another structure, or standing on its own
  • The slab and footings: staying or coming out
  • Access for the machine and the truck

Does the slab come out too?

Only if you want it to. A garage slab and its footings are priced on top of the garage, typically $500–$3,000 at Sydney market rates (GST not stated), depending on the size and thickness of the concrete and how it leaves the site.

Tell us how you’ll use the space: a slab that stays can save money, but not if your builder or landscaper needs it gone anyway.

What changes the price of a pool removal?

The pool’s construction, its size and depth, and whether it comes out completely or partly set the starting point. Backyard access then decides the machines: where a machine can’t reach the pool, Sydney guides add a surcharge on top.

The backfill and the finish are part of the price too: the fill, how it’s compacted and drained, and the final levels. If you plan to build over the area, compaction and geotechnical testing are usually an extra line.

  • Concrete or fibreglass, and the approximate size and depth
  • The narrowest point of the route for machines, spoil and fill
  • Full or partial removal
  • Coping and paving that come out with the pool
  • The fill, compaction and finish your next use needs

Full or partial pool removal?

Partial removal breaks down part of the shell and backfills the rest, so it costs less: typically $3,500–$10,000 for a concrete pool at Sydney market rates, against $8,000–$18,000 to take the whole shell out (GST not stated in the sources).

Which suits depends on the site and what comes next. If the area will carry a building, ask your certifier or engineer before choosing, because they set what the ground needs.

What should a garage or pool quote show?

Two quotes for the same garage or pool can describe different jobs. Line them up item by item before you compare the totals.

  • What is removed and what stays, including slabs, footings, coping and paving
  • Asbestos removal, the clearance certificate and licensed disposal
  • The fill, compaction and finish for a pool
  • Access, machine and truck assumptions
  • Whether each price includes GST
