Pool removal in the Inner WestYour next use
decides the removal.

Three decisions set the scope and the price. We agree each one with you in writing before the work is booked.

  1. Full removal

The whole shell and agreed surrounds are removed, then the area is backfilled and compacted. If you may build there later, your engineer and certifier confirm the requirements.

  2. Partial removal

The upper shell is broken down, drainage through the base is addressed and the remaining pool is filled. It may suit a lawn or garden, but does not suit every site or later building plan.

  3. Backfill and records

Agree the fill material, compaction, finished levels and any inspections or records before starting. A filled pool is not automatically ready to build on.

Good work.
In their words.

Good price, respectful, attended to detail for us, on time and on budget.
Graeme D.Google review · April 2022
After weeks of putting us off and not giving us a start time, we had to look elsewhere and Active were able to fit us in at short notice. Very impressed with how the lot was left.
Mick J.Google review · July 2022
Professional and helpful during the entire process and took great care in leaving the place spotless and safe.

Sydney market guide

Not Active’s price list. Each site is quoted individually. Checked 10 October 2026. GST not stated.

Typical Sydney market rates for pool removal, checked 10 October 2026
JobTypical rangeWhat the figure covers
Concrete pool, partial removal and backfill$3,500–$10,000Sydney and NSW guides; part of the shell stays in the ground.
Concrete pool, full removal$8,000–$18,000Sydney and NSW guides; the whole shell comes out before backfill.
Fibreglass pool, full removal$8,000–$15,000Guides differ widely; one Sydney guide puts it at $10,000–$20,000.

What these rates cover

For a standard-size in-ground pool with machine access to the backyard, including backfill. Difficult access, a deep pool, coping and paving, and compaction testing are usually extra.

Your property in the Inner WestBefore work
starts.

Confirm approval, drainage and backfill requirements for the actual property. The intended use of the filled area determines any engineering, inspections and compaction records.

Checks for each council area

Open the council that covers your property.

Burwood

Permits for the road and footpath

Burwood needs a permit before anyone uses, closes or works on its road, footpath or nature strip, including for loading, work zones and hoardings.

Canada Bay

Skips on the road need approval

A skip on your own block needs no application. One on a Canada Bay road needs council approval, fees and a refundable bond, a week at a time, so we load on your block wherever we can.

Canterbury-Bankstown

Protect the trees that stay

Canterbury-Bankstown assesses trees with the development application. Trees that stay are fenced off with no machines or digging inside the fence, which shapes how we work the block.

City of Sydney

You may need a traffic plan

Some City of Sydney approvals need a construction traffic management plan, which sets out how trucks, loading and pedestrians are handled. If yours does, we work to it.

Load on site where you can

City of Sydney expects loading to happen inside the site. If that isn’t possible, an on-street works zone needs its own approval, and some streets aren’t suitable.

Cumberland

Permits for skips, fencing and trucks

Cumberland needs a permit for a skip on the road, another to fence off part of a road or footpath, and a hoarding permit for temporary fencing on a footpath. A works zone for trucks is a separate application.

Parramatta

Apply before using the street

A skip or building waste bin on a Parramatta street or footpath needs a Waste Container Permit, applied for before any work in the road reserve. Hoardings and scaffolding over the road need approval too.

Strathfield

Trees are part of the approval

In Strathfield, removing a tree that is part of a heritage item, inside a conservation area or on the significant tree register needs a development application. If the tree goes as part of a building application, no separate tree application is needed.

Council guidance checked between 15 September 2026 and 2 October 2026. These are matters to check, not a determination for an individual address. Your council or certifier confirms what applies.

How a pool removal runsFrom enquiry
to handover.

Three stages, in the order they happen. Who arranges each item is agreed before the job is booked.

  1. 01

    Agree the next use

Assess the pool and access, then confirm the removal method with any engineering or approval requirements.

  2. 02

    Remove the agreed shell

Complete the agreed removal and take out the material that is not part of the approved fill arrangement.

  3. 03

    Backfill and hand over

Backfill and compact to the agreed requirements, with final levels, inspections and records confirmed for the intended use.

More questions answered
What fill is used?

The fill, compaction and drainage depend on how the area will be used and on any engineering requirements for a future building. We confirm the fill and the finish in your quote.

Will you fill a pool where a building will go later?

Yes. Tell us before we start, because it changes the job: the pool is removed and the hole filled and compacted to your engineer’s and certifier’s requirements, with compaction testing where they ask for it.

Can the pool surrounds and equipment go too?

Yes, if you want them gone. The coping, paving, fencing, pump and piping are listed in the quote, with anything staying marked and protected.
